Obverse: Portrait of the late Turkmenistan president Saparmurat Niyazov "Turkmenbashi" with three "Altyn Ai" gold medals. Niyazov was given the highest civilian honour of Hero of Turkmenistan and "Altyn Ai" - "Golden Moon" gold medals award five times, and in 2003 was officially elevated to the status of Prophet in a declaration from his ministers which read: "
God awards such strength, such greatness, such fate, only to those he favours and sincerely loves as God's messenger.". At center: The Palace of Turkmenbashi in Independence Square, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The presidential palace was named after the first post-independence leader, President Saparmurat Niyazov — a mercurial and often megalomaniacal character who officially went by the title of Turkmenbashi, or Father of the Turkmens. Crescent moon and five five-pointed stars at upper left.
